We run 90-minute private and group sessions at Zuma and Broad Beach, always choosing the right spot for the day’s swell, tide, and wind.
With years of experience teaching beginners, families, and intermediate surfers.
We keep groups small for faster progress, and a safer, more enjoyable time in the water. With all gear included, plus optional photo and video packages, all you need to bring is sunscreen and stoke.

Meet the Team
Every person in the Always Summer Surf School surfs. From the website builder to the phone operator to the instructor, we all surf.
Anthony Petro
Soul surfer and ocean enthusiast, Anthony has been riding waves for over sixteen years. From 2009 – 2016 he lived in Hawai’i on the island of O’ahu where he perfected his skills as a waterman.
After returning to California, he was appointed director of operations at a friend’s surf school, and later founded Always Summer.
Over the past decade, he has developed comprehensive training programs focused on surf education and ocean safety for both children and adults. His goal is to share the joy of surfing in a fun, friendly environment that welcomes all ages and skill levels.
Matthew Markman
Southern California citizen of the world. In 2010 his life changed. He realized a growing population is looking for comprehensive condensed surf training which would otherwise require decades of dedicated practice and study.
Now, with over thirty years’ experience in the water and nearly a decade of program development, his goal is to execute custom programing for the ultimate experience.
Steele Pace
Lifelong surfer, teaching more than ten years, Steele now specializes in videography/ photography. He is often capturing content for our social media with camera in hand. If you see him on the beach during your next lesson, be sure to turn your shred level to 100! Your wave could show up on our gram! @alwayssummersurfschool
Makena Nai
Professional surfer, skateboarder and all-around waterman from the Big Island of Hawai’i, Makena has been teaching and coaching surfing for eight years. He has dedicated his life to spread Aloha and teach the art of surfing!
Doug Wright
Doug has been shredding waves for twenty epic years. After high school, he chased his passion to Hawai’i, spending eleven unforgettable years mastering some of America's most legendary waves. He now shares his love of surfing with the world!
